FanFactor

Thanks for a great season. We have had fun brining the show to you each week.
We'll be taking a break and will be returning in July.

From the creators of SearchQB.com comes "FanFactor" a weekly podcast about football from the perspective of two fans. Each week during the football the show members (Jason Opdyke and Joe Suarez) provide commentary and analysis of the previous weekend's college and NFL games. They also discuss roster movements, fantasy rankings, and just about anything else related to football. In the offseason the show continues with NFL draft player profiles, commentary on free agency and high school/college recruiting, and all the other business of the offseason. The show airs once a week (now on Thursdays). The latest episode will be posted here early in the day, and archives of old episodes will be listed here as well. If you want to setup the show on your iPod, Tivo, or other RSS capable device, the XML feed for the show is http://www.searchqb.com/noname/fanfactor.xml

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Miller High Life. Will the AAFL ever see a game played? We have some information on the unraveling of the latest attempt at a new professional football league. We then bring you up to speed with tons of NFL news- all the latest regarding free agency, trades, and those swirling rumors. Will Aaron Rogers be the next starter in Green Bay, or could it be someone unexpected like Brady Quinn perhaps? And what is going on in the Oakland Raiders' front office? First 50 million to Tommy Kelly and then a huge payday for, um, Javon Walker? These are just a few of the subjects we tackle (pun intended) in this week's show.

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Duchy Originals Organic English Ale. This week we have a special Free Agency show, an entire program devoted to the latest free agency news and rumors from around the NFL. We talk about the newest members of the Philadelphia Eagles- Asante Samuel and Chris Clemons. If you want to catch up on all the latest in free agency, don't miss this week's show.

Click to Listen to Week 25 (Friday, February 22, 2008)- 42:03, 38.5 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Stiegl. We tried to get Bill Parcells on the show- as you can hear in our phone call with him, he-well, he just didn't want to join us. So instead of getting some inside info on the Dolphins, we get to hear picks 11 through 15 of Jason's mock draft. We also get a 2009 college football recruiting update from Joe (that's right, 2009). Then we talk about some of the latest news and rumors circulating around the NFL regarding free agency. Could Larry Fitzgerald soon be an Eagle? Will Rex Grossman be wearing a different uniform next year? We'll shake the magic eight ball and let you know what it says. Oh, and as you may know, the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis is going on right now, so the program concludes with some of the latest about that.

Click to Listen to Week 24 (Friday, February 15, 2008)- 38:55, 35.6 MB

Summary of this week's show- **Beginning this week, the show will now record on Fridays and air Saturdays** This week's beer is Shock Top Belgian White. There won't be another football game (unless you count the AAFL) until July, but fret not our football friends, here at FanFactor the season never ends. In fact, depending on how you look at it, this could be the most exciting time of the year- we've got the scouting combine right around the corner, we've got free agency ahead, and of course the New England spygate controversy seems to grow with every passing day. This week we take a look at some of the comments Senator Arlen Specter made about spygate after his meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, we get a Pro Bowl recap from Joe, and then we finish by critiquing the first 16 picks of CBS Sportline writer Pete Prisco's most recent mock draft.

Click to Listen to Week 23 (Thursday, February 7, 2008)- 48:57, 44.8 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week we've got a special 50-minute show, packed with review and analysis of college football signing day. This week's beer is Sam Adams Cherry Wheat Ale. The football season is officially over (unless you count the Pro Bowl). We share our thoughts on the Super Bowl and reflect on the seasons of the NY Giants and New England Patriots. Then we hear picks 7-10 of Jason's mock draft. Who will the Patriots take with their #7 overall pick? You'll have to listen to find out. Following the mock draft Joe leads a special signing day segment, giving you insight and analysis on the top movers and shakers from college football's biggest recruiting day of the year. Joe also goes through the rankings from ESPN, Scout, and Rivals to see which teams finished high, and which teams made the most signing day gains.

Click to Listen to Week 22 (Thursday, January 31, 2008)- 37:05, 33.9 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Foster's. The Super Bowl is only a few days away and even if you think you've read and heard enough analysis already, you won't want to miss this show because we go over some important keys to this game that will decide the outcome, and also talk about what the Giants must do if they want to have a shot to win. Then we get to hear picks 4, 5, and 6 of Jason's mock draft (will Darren McFadden or Glenn Dorsey finally get drafted?) along with Joe's high school/college recruiting segment. Next week there will be no football games on the horizon to talk about, but that's okay because Joe leads a special signing day episode where we give you the rundown on all the big commitments made February 6th. Oh, and we'll have picks 7-10 of Jason's mock draft too!

Click to Listen to Week 21 (Thursday, January 24, 2008)- 39:59, 36.6 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss. This Sunday marks the first Sunday without football since July. But don't worry, we've still got a lot to talk about. We begin with a recap of the AFC and NFC championship games, and then Joe introduces a new weekly segment about college recruiting. This week he talks about Florida and Miami's recruiting classes and also gives some updates on where top unsigned recruits like Terrell Pryor and Julio Jones may be headed. Then Jason moves things over to the NFL where he reveals the first three picks in his brand spankin' new mock draft and explains his reasoning behind them. These two features will continue next week, and we will also have a special Super Bowl preview in our next show.

Click to Listen to Week 20 (Thursday, January 17, 2008)- 38:33, 35.2 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is New Castle. On this fine January afternoon we wrap up last weekend's divisional round playoff action and then preview Sunday's league championship games. The NY Giants head to Green Bay where the last Manning standing will try and stay on his feet while the San Diego Chargers are off to Foxboro to see how good those Patriots really are. We'll share our thoughts on those games and then its back to college football for a moment- the college season may be over, but the draft is not far away, so we give a rundown on Kentucky QB Andre Woodson and what NFL teams can expect from him, as well as where he can expect to be drafted. We close the show with our prediction segment, where we'll tell you who the top five fantasy quarterbacks will be going into the 2008 season. Um, yes, Tom Brady is number one.

Click to Listen to Week 19 (Thursday, January 10, 2008)- 33:05, 30.2 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Monty Python's Holy Grail Ale. We open with a look at the coaching situation in Indianapolis, could Tony Dungy be leaving soon? We also talk about Ryan Mallett's decision to leave Michigan and what it could mean for Terrelle Pryor, the top unsigned QB recruit in the nation. With the divisional round of the NFL playoffs coming up, we preview some of the big games and offer some bold predictions, like (prepare to be shocked in 3...2...1...) our picking the Patriots to beat the Jaguars at home. We also recap the wild card games and close out the program with our prediction segment, where we tell you who will be number one in college football after week one of the 2008 season (sorry June, it ain't SMU). Oh, and if you're wondering whether the Chargers have a chance in Indy without Antonio Gates, you'll really want to listen this week.

Click to Listen to Week 18 (Thursday, January 3, 2008)- 32:33, 29.8 MB

Summary of this week's show- Happy new year! This week's beer is Porter from Michelob. The fantasy football season is over, as are the college and NFL regular seasons. In place of our fantasy football segment, we take a look at all four of this weekend's NFL wild card playoff matchups, and offer our keys to the games as well as our predictions. We then talk about some of the college bowl surprises so far, including West Virginia's big win over Oklahoma. That's followed by a preview of Monday night's national championship game between LSU and Ohio State, and then the show wraps with our picks segment. We pick the national championship game of course, but we also give our answers to questions like "will/should the New England Patriots take Darren McFadden if he's somehow still on the board when they pick seventh in the NFL draft?" and "will the Miami Dolphins win at least five games next season?" (Editor's note: FanFactor will continue to air weekly through the offseason.)

Click to Listen to Week 17 (Thursday, December 27, 2007)- 32:05, 29.3 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Rare Vos. Monday night's game between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers capped the fantasy season for nearly all leagues playing, so in today's show we begin by talking about our own playoff experiences (all three of us made our league playoffs in our ten-team league) and reflect on which players helped or hurt us these last two playoff weeks. Two of us made the championship game, so one of us won it all, but you'll have to listen to find out who, and also to hear the loser rant about why he lost. We then move forward to talk about the NFL playoffs and whether or not we might see some surprises this year- a Jacksonville-Green Bay Super Bowl perhaps? The Brady Bunch might have something to say about that. Our show finishes with a marathon (more like a sprint due to time constraints) bowl game prediction, where we predict all the bowl games from December 26th up through the 2nd of January. Our show next week will have predictions for the remaining BCS games.

Click to Listen to Week 16 (Thursday, December 20, 2007)- 29:50, 27.3 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week we have no beer. But we do have a lot of football to talk about, beginning with a special fantasy football championship discussion, where we talk about some players from our own rosters (Joe and Jason face off in a championship game this week) and also offer advice about who to start and sit on your own roster if your team is still alive. We also talk about some fantasy surprises and busts from the season as a whole, and then offer our take on the pro bowl selections for this year. Our draft preview is back with a profile of Louisville QB Brian Brohm, and the we wrap things up with our picks for some NFL games this weekend. We pick a total of four games including the Giants at the Bills, the Texans at the Colts, the Redskins at the Vikings, and the Browns at the Bengals. Next week we will have a special college bowl picks segment where we pick all of the late December and January bowl games.

Click to Listen to Week 15 (Thursday, December 13, 2007)- 33:18, 30.5 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale. Adam is back from IR this week, he was in town and joined us for this week's program. He gets things started with our "fantasy hot and not" review, where we also give advice on who to start and sit for this coming fantasy playoff weekend. Some of the players mentioned this week are Roddy White, Tony Romo, Willis McGahee, and Marshawn Lynch. We bring back our "Did I ask for an argument" segment this week where we weigh in on Bobby Petrino's abrupt resignation in Atlanta, and then we close, as always, with some NFL discussion and our picks for the week. This week we pick a total of four games including the Denver Broncos at the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chicago Bears at the Minnesota Vikings, and the Baltimore Ravens at the Miami Dolphins? Do any of us think the Finz can get their first win of the season here? Listen to find out!

Click to Listen to Week 14 (Thursday, December 6, 2007)- 40:09, 36.7 MB

Summary of this week's show- This week's beer is Marzen. We have decided to put Adam on IR for the remainder of the season, as he will be moving soon and is leaving the show. Though we will miss his contributions to the program, we are excited about the increased beer consumption opportunities this presents the rest of us now that there will be more beer for us. In all seriousness though we wish Adam the best of luck and hope he can come back and join us as a guest when he is in town. For this week's program we kick off with a special college bowl game and BCS discussion, and then head into our NewsQB.com item of the week segment where we talk about Travis Henry's successful suspension appeal in Denver. We then go to our fantasy hot and not review where we talk about players like Patrick Willis, Justin Fargas, Adrian Peterson, and the "other" Adrian Peterson. We wrap things up with our picks segment, where we have three NFL games to pick for you (no college games of course as the regular season has ended). This week we pick the Giants at the Eagles, the Steelers at the Patriots, and the Colts at the Ravens.

Click to Listen to Week 13 (Thursday, November 29, 2007)- 41:12, 37.7 MB

Among the players we talk about in our fantasy "hot and not" review are some surprises like Kolby Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs and Andre Hall of the Denver Broncos, as well as some disappointments like Tennessee's LenDale White and Green Bay's AJ Hawk. In lieu of our NewsQB.com item of the week segment we return to our special draft profile since it did not make the show last week due to the technical difficulties. We offer our opinions on Tulane's Matt Forte and Oklahoma's Malcolm Kelly. Then we have a joke interview with Bobby Bowden of the FSU Seminoles, after which everything is wrapped up by our picks segment, where we talk about games from last week and then make predictions for each one of the college championship games this weekend, as well as three NFL games. The games we pick this week include the ACC Championship (Boston College at Virginia Tech), the SEC Championship (LSU at Tennessee), the Big Twelve Championship (Missouri at Oklahoma), and in the NFL the Packers at the Cowboys, the Jaguars at the Colts, and the Jets at the Dolphins. Click to Listen to Week 12 (Tuesday, November 20, 2007)- 14:32, 13.3 MB

Summary of this week's show- (Note: due to uncorrectable technical difficulties, this week's show is just 15 minutes long- we did not get to the draft spotlight section in the summary or anything beyond that- we will have a normal length show next week.) Happy Thanksgiving! This week's beer is Stella Artois. We have a special early show this week so we can clear out of here for Thanksgiving. Because we recorded this before the Sunday night and Monday night games were done, we are doing a special "College Football Review and NFL Draft Preview" show. There is no fantasy "hot and not", NewsQB.com Item of the Week, or "Did I ask for an argument" segment in this special show. Instead we review some of last Saturday's exciting college games like Texas Tech's big win over Oklahoma, we talk about the new BCS rankings, and we look ahead to the huge Missouri-Kansas matchup this weekend. In a new segment called "Draft Spotlight" we talk about Tulane RB Matt Forte and Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly. We finish the show by making our college and NFL picks, where we pick a total of six games including Missouri at Kansas, Clemson at South Carolina, Virginia Tech at Virginia, the Packers at the Lions, the Texans at the Browns, and the Seahawks at the Rams.

In our "Did I ask for an argument" back-and-forth, the topic is Don Shula's suggestion that the New England Patriots' record should have an asterisk next to it should they go 16-0.
