Keeping with yesterday's topic of agents, for today's item we suggest that if you want to read an excellent book that goes inside the NFL draft, checkout The Draft: A Year Inside the NFL's Search for Talent by Pete Williams. It goes behind the scenes for one full year and covers everything about the draft from the perspective of players, coaches, and agents as well. It covers combine preparation, agent recruiting, and much more. The above link takes you to the book's page at Borders.com- note we do not have a marketing relationship with Borders, or with the book's publisher- if you decide to get it, buy it wherever you want (we recommend eBay or half.com if you want a bargain).

As football fans know, the NFL draft is about more than just players, coaches, and GMs. Agents have a huge stake in the event as well. Representing a player who ends up going in the first round provides a huge recruiting boost to an agent the same way winning a national championship does for a college football coach. But we don't see much written about agents in the press these days. One of our favorite web sites, ProFootballTalk.com, has created a ranking system to grade how well various agents and agencies did in last weekend's draft. That is today's item.

The NFL is the papa bear of American football, but that doesn't mean the AFL (as in Arena Football League) isn't fun to follow. Today's item is AFL 101, a section of the official Arena Football League web site that breaks down the rules and dynamics of the game.

The pick that I was anticipating most in site about mystery case files return to ravenhearst tips this past weekend's draft was the awesome spongebob atlantis game number two overall by the Detroit Lions. Going in to the weekend, the Lions had taken wide receivers in the first round in three of the last four drafts. There was much speculation that the team needed to address other needs this time around, and they probably would have had in not been for the allure of Calvin Johnson, the Georgia Tech receiver who most analyists agree is a once-a-decade type player. I think Matt Millen did the right thing by taking Johnson despite the failure of two of the three receivers the team has taken in the first round the past four years, but I wasn't sure he would. Today's item is an article from DetroitLions.com which explains the team's decision to pick Johnson.

If you have read as much analysis of this past weekend's draft as our staff, you are probably ready for something different (not different from football mind you, just something other than draft analysis). Thus, today's item is Cold, Hard, Football Facts.com.
