Happy Draft Weekend, fellow football fans. Today's item is the Rumor Mill of the ProFootballTalk.com web site. They have all day updates planned throughout the draft, and really do an excellent job presenting up to the minute information. Plus, they have their own sources, so everything you read is not just a parrot of an AP article. Keeping true to football form, their writers are no politically correct nice guys- when they have opinions about a particular topic, they let you know.

Today's item is the web site Hell2DaNaw.com. The name is unconventional, yes, but what's wrong with a little unconvention? Afterall, we're football fans, not English professors, though some readers could be both I suppose. For those wondering, the name is another way of saying "hell no", as in "hell to the no." This site came to our attention via our site submission page. It is updated somewhat often (about once a day with different writers posting sometimes), and covers a wide variety of subjects- from college game revenue programs to Charlie Weis' easter basket.

Today's item is GatorZone.com

The NFL draft is this coming weekend (but if you're here you probably knew that) and in a few months the preseason will be upon us. Before going forward, visit GatorZone.com to take one last look at what the Florida Gators have accomplished this past year. I think it's pretty safe to say its not going to happen to one school again any time soon.

Today's item is the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders Homepage

Is it us, or is NFL cheerleading becoming a dying art? It's still big in college games, but NFL camera crews barely pan the NFL cheerleaders these days. Maybe its just us.

Seminade? Or the University of BS?

Today's item is a story going around the Internet that the University of Florida "stole" Gatorade from rival Florida State University back in the sixties. The frequent blog posts discussing this commonly cite this statement from a web site called historyofbranding.com (http://www.historyofbranding.com/gatorade.html):

"Contary to popular belief, the University of Florida did not come up with the sports drink that is now known as Gatorade. The team doctor for the FSU football team, Dr. R.A. Johnson, began producing a sports drink that he called "Seminole Firewater" as early as 1962. Dr. Johnson blended sugar and lime flavoring with electrolytes (salts) to help keep the players hydrated and to prevent cramping. In 1964 at an annual Seminar of Collegiate sports physicians and athletic trainers held in Tallahasse, Fl., a representative from the University of Florida found out about the discovery that sodium and potassium keeps athletes better hydrated because it gives back to the body what is lost through sweat. They returned to Gainesville and, after being tested on the UF football players, the name "Gatorade" was given. The University of Florida requested a certified patent in 1967 for the drink that Dr. Johnson had freely shared with the public. Even though the popular sports drink known as "Gatorade" will always be affiliated with the University of Florida, true credit belongs to Dr. R.A. Johnson and the Florida State University."

While SearchQB.com does not like to take sides in rivalries, upon further examination there seems to be much evidence that this is a hoax. First and foremost, if this were true you think dozens of publications including the Associated Press would have picked it up by now. A search at Google News reveals no hits from popular publications.

This text mentions "Seminole Firewater" which returns a whopping seven results at Google.com

This same exact paragraph also appears at Answers.com (http://www.answers.com/topic/history-of-gatorade). Answers.com notes however that the text was taken from Wikipedia, meaning it could have been written by anyone.

What stood out the most though was at the historyofbranding.com page, after the article there is a link that says "Read the Full History at Gatorade.com"

The link does not take you to Gatorade.com though, instead it takes you to www.ubs.com.

UBS. Perhaps as in the University of BS, the school where the clever hoaxter graduated magna cum laude?

Today's item is the Slippery Rock University football department's web site.

I have not called around to find out, but I do wonder if anyone has ever slipped on a rock while on campus grounds. Would they sue?

Judge: Okay Mr. Williams, you are suing Slippery Rock University for medical bills due to an injury that occured while on the Slippery Rock campus, is this correct?
Mr. Williams: Yes, your honor
Judge: And how did this injury occur?
